The Underground Railroad is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides emergency assistance to families experiencing homelessness in Harnett County.
What We Do
The Underground Railroad provides temporary, emergency housing and food for Harnett County families experiencing homelessness. Additionally, we work to stop evictions so that we can keep our clients in their homes, avoiding lengthy and costly hotel stays. During the winter, we manage a senior citizens fund to keep utilities paid. At Christmas, we host one of the area’s largest toy giveaways to families in need. We maintain 4 storage units for clothing, household items, baby supplies, and camping supplies for persons living unsheltered throughout Harnett County. We have been able to bless several families with used vehicles that were donated, and we maintain an emergency food bank at our headquarters in Lillington, NC.
